My dear readers,

(Extracts from Daily Remembrancer by Pastor James Smith, edited by Dr SH Tow)

1. "The word of our God shall stand for ever" Isa 40:8 (September 8 MORNING)

“MY WORDS SHALL NOT PASS AWAY.” Even after heaven and earth have passed away, God’s Words will remain unmoved, unchanged. The Word of our God is like His nature, immutably the same; He says, "My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my mouth." Believer, this is your comfort; every promise is confirmed and shall be fulfilled. But what has He said? He has said, "Though your sins be as scarlet they shall be as white as snow. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. No weapon formed against thee shall prosper. I will strengthen thee, I will help thee. I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly." All that He says comes surely to pass. Not one jot or tittle can fail. He never speaks hastily, insincerely, or unwisely; He has drawn His plan, given His Word, and everything shall fulfil the purpose He has in view. Man may disappoint, God cannot. Man may change his mind, or break his word, but God cannot. He abides faithful, He cannot deny Himself. Trust, and be not afraid.

The Word of God shall still endure,
Faithful, immutable and sure:
This solid rock shall never break,
Though earth should to her bowels shake.
And while it stands we should not fear,
For all we need is promised here.

2. "Who is on the Lord's side?" Ex 32:26 (October 2 MORNING)

“HE THAT IS NOT WITH ME IS AGAINST ME.” Our Lord makes it crystal clear: in spiritual conflict God allows no neutrality. Every believer must stand with the Lord. The Lord has a cause upon the earth; it is rejected, and wants your acceptance; it is despised, and needs your countenance. If you are on the Lord's side, you are on the side of truth, of holiness and charity; you are on the side of His ordinances, of His people and His ways, and you are jealous for His honour. With His people, you go forth to Jesus without the camp, bearing His reproach. If you are on the Lord's side, He will spare you as obedient children, supply you as faithful servants, protect you as loyal subjects, and honour you as brave and courageous soldiers. You will never see any just occasion to change sides, or regret that you ever decided to serve so good a Master. You will find the Lord to be on your side, supporting you in affliction, comforting you in trouble, giving you victory in death, and pronouncing you just in the judgment. If you are on the Lord's side, avow it openly, prove it daily, and let your whole conduct say, "I am the Lord’s." Use all your influence for His cause, and rejoice if you should suffer for His name.

Who is on the Lord’s side? who will serve the King?
Who will be His helpers, other lives to bring?
Who will leave the world’s side? who will face the foe?
Who is on the Lord’s side? who for Him will go?
By Thy call of mercy, by Thy grace divine,
We are on the Lord’s side — Saviour, we are Thine!

3. "Have faith in God" Mk 11:22 (April 23 MORNING)

“WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE HIM.” Our God has spoken. His Word is truth: believe it, plead it, expect the fulfilment of it. He cannot deceive you. His ear is open to you. Try Him. What do you want? Why do you want it? If you really need, if your motives are good, plead with God for it; expect Him to bestow it; and receive it as coming from Him. In every trial, for all you need, have faith in God. He will be gracious unto you. He is ever with you. He is ready to help you. He rejoices over you to do you good. His Word is true from the beginning. He is the faithful God. He keepeth covenant and mercy. Believe in God for all that your circumstances require. Patiently wait His time for your supplies. Never stop praying or expecting because He delays: never doubt Him but trust in Him with all your heart. He is God, thy God; He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that you ask or think. This is thy direction, thy duty, thy privilege: have faith in God. Walk with God, talk with God, expect from God, do all for God, be entirely devoted to God. "Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” Therefore will I look unto the Lord.

Begone, unbelief! my Saviour is near,
And for my relief He’ll surely appear:
By prayer let me wrestle that He will perform;
With Christ in the vessel, I smile at the storm.

4. “The just shall live by faith” Gal 3:11 (May 24 EVENING)

“AND THE LAW IS NOT OF FAITH.” Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law. In Him we receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. It is by faith alone that we become just. Being convinced of sin, sensible of our weakness, and understanding the gospel, we embrace the finished work of Christ; His righteousness becomes ours, and we are justified from all things. Being justified we live. That is, we are freed from condemnation; we are entitled to all spiritual blessings, and we walk at liberty. We live by faith. By faith we overcome our foes. By faith we obtain supplies. By faith we perform the will of God. By faith we walk with God. The life which we live in the flesh, is by the faith of the Son of God. We believe His word, rest alone on His work, have confidence in His faithfulness, and derive our supplies from His fulness. We work from principle, not for wages. We live as children in our Father's house, not as servants on a payroll. We go forward though all appear dark, gloomy, and forbidding. At times we appear to have nothing but the bare promise. All within is cold, hard, and dead; all without seems to go against us. Then it is that we more particularly trust in the Lord and stay ourselves upon our God. It is all by faith.

By faith accounted just,
By faith to God we live,
With patience wait His time, and trust
His fulness to receive.
God bless you dear readers.

Yours faithfully in the Saviour’s Service,
Dr SH Tow, Founding Pastor
